Pets

We'll take good care of your best friend.

pets in the cabin

Most airlines do not accept pets for travel in the main cabin of their aircraft. We are happy to carry your pet as checked baggage.

pets checked as baggage
Your pet will be handled with great care and will be treated as one of the family. For their safety, pets must travel in an approved travel container as follows:

  • One dog or cat per travel container if the animal is over six months old

  • Limit of two puppies or kittens per travel container, as long as they:

    • Are from the same litter

    • Are between the ages of eight weeks and six months

    • Weigh less than 20 pounds each

We'll allow two pets per ticketed passenger, provided the operating aircraft can accommodate both. We charge a fee based on kennel size, so please make sure to give yourself extra time for checking in. You'll need to pay this fee at the ticket counter when you check in.

  • For small and medium sized kennels, a fee of $100 applies each direction.

  • For large and extra large sized kennels, a fee of $200 applies each direction

For the ease of your travel, when transporting your pet, please follow the guidelines below:

  • Make advanced reservations on the phone. Pets can't be booked online so please call our Reservations Department at 318-329-2461 so we can ensure availability and reserve space for your pet.

  • Your pet must be harmless, inoffensive, odorless and require no attention during transit.

  • You must make arrangements and assume full responsibility for complying with any applicable laws, customs and government regulations or restrictions of the country, state or territory to which your pet is being transported.

  • Health information is required.

Sorry, but we will not accept:

  • pets requiring transfer to another carrier

  • pets on charter flights

  • unaccompanied pets

  • reptiles, amphibians, insects or arachnids/spiders

Please be aware that certain flights operated by our codeshare partners may not accept live animals checked as baggage. Please call our Reservations Department at 318-329-2461 to make sure the flight you're traveling on can accommodate pets.

weather matters
To protect your pet's health and well-being, temperature restrictions have been established to ensure your pet isn't exposed to extreme heat or cold. It is not safe to transport your pet if the forecasted temperature in any city on your itinerary is below 45°F (including the wind chill factor) or above 85°F. If the temperature is outside these limits, we cannot transport your pet unless you get a Certificate of Acclimation signed by your veterinarian. The Certificate of Acclimation must include:

  • A statement by the veterinarian that, to the best of his or her knowledge, the animal is acclimated to air temperatures below 45°F (including the wind chill factor) or above 85°F

  • A statement by the veterinarian giving a minimum and maximum temperature your pet can safely withstand when traveling

  • The statement must be signed by the veterinarian dated no more than 10 days prior to the originating departure

There is a bottom line, please know that even with a Certificate of Acclimation, we cannot accept your pet when the temperature is below 10°F (including the wind chill factor) or above 95°F. We stand by this rule because we love pets as much as you do and don't want to see any harm come to them. Please make sure to keep weather in mind when planning a trip with your pet.

pet embargoes
Because weather matters, the outside temperature must be within the range to keep our pets safe. Some cities require a permanent embargo for pet travel during the summer months. The following cities cannot transport pets during the months of June, July, August and September:

Between the hours of Noon and 8 p.m.

  • Houston

  • Ft. Lauderdale

  • Orlando

  • Atlanta

All Day

  • Phoenix

  • Tucson

  • Las Vegas

  • San Antonio

There are also day of departure embargos at select cities when the temperatures are just too low or too high. Please call our Reservations Department at 318-329-2461 if you have any questions.

animal containers
For the comfort of your pet and for us to accept him or her, please follow the guidelines below when selecting a travel container:

  • Containers must be leak-proof.

  • The container must be ventilated on at least two sides and must prevent any part of the animal from protruding outside of the container.

  • The container must be constructed of metal, wood, polyethylene plastic or a composite material of similar strength, and have absorbent material on the bottom. For your pet's safety, we cannot accept wire cages or folding/collapsible (including soft-sided) containers for pet transport.

  • Food and water dishes must be securely attached inside the travel container and placed so that they can be filled from the outside without opening the door.

  • The container must be large enough to allow your pet to stand up, turn around and lie down in a natural position.

  • The door must latch securely and prevent escape of the pet under normal handling.

  • The container must have handles or adequate devices which support the full weight of the travel container and pet.

  • Containers must be labeled with stickers or markings when checking a pet as baggage as follows:

    • "Live Animals"

    • Orientation arrows indicating the correct upright position of the container

    • Passenger's name, address and telephone number (may be attached to the handle)

  • All travel containers are subject to inspection and approval by Monroe Regional Airport as well as individual airlines.

  • Please keep in mind that we don't stock or sell kennels so, for "pet's sake" come prepared.
